A young woman tries to isolate herself from friends and any notion of affection following the death of her composer husband and child in a car crash. but she cannot escape from the fragments of his unfinished composition. in which she played a major part. An expressive and symbolic film that is also emotionally satisfying. Binoche‘s award-winning performance. in a film of profound beauty. is the best of her career. Central: MacRobert. I The Thee Musketeers (PG) (Stephen Herek. US. 1993) Chris O'Donnell. Charlie Sheen. Kiefer Sutherland. Oliver Platt. 106 mins. Young D‘Artagnan (O'Donnell) teams up with a trio of the king‘s bodyguard and together they set out to foil the evil Cardinal Richelieu's plans. save the monarcy. snog the wenches. drink their fill and do what 17th century French heroes have to do. Unpretentious value-for-money entertainment that bears a passing resemblance to a novel by Alexandre Dumas. General release. I TH (18) (Ken Russell. UK. 1975) Roger Daltry. Ann-Margret. Oliver Reed. 108 mins. A gloriously over-the-top rendition of The Who's rock opera. with Daltry as the traumatised kid who comes out of his self-inflicted stupor to become a new messiah. Fuelled by a succession of marvellously unsubtle cameos from the likes of Elton John. Tina Turner and Keith Moon. The art direction. by John Clark. has richly stylised sets. Part of the Designs Of The Time touring season. Glasgow: GFT. I Toeelee Matineh Meade (l2) (Alain Corneau. France. 1992) Gerard Depardieu. Guillaume Depardieu. Anne Brochet. 114 mins. The story of 17th century viol de gamba virtuoso Marin Marais (told in flashback using Depardieu pere er fiis) acts as a background for conflicts between music and musician. art and artiste.
Hugely successful on home territory. it marks an impressive debut for young Guillaume. who‘s likely to set hearts racing from Toulouse to Tollcross. Edinburgh: Royal Museum.
I True Romance (18) (Tony Scott. US. 1993) Christian Slater. Patricia Arquette. Dennis Hopper. 119 mins. Comic bookstore assistant Clarence meets. sleeps with and marries novice hooker Alabama within a matter of hours. then the lovebirds find themselves on the run with an accidentally stolen case of cocaine. Limelight- stealing cameos and writer Quentin Tarantino's verbal set-pieces fire this excellent movie. the epitome of disposable pop culture for the fast- food generation. Edinburgh: Filmhouse.

Monty Python meets Don Quixote as a 12th century knight and his smelly servant are pitched forward in time to modem- day France after drinking a magic potion. It's time to party on again with Wayne and Garth. now they've left home and decide to stage Waynestock. a somewhat over-ambitious concert. in Aurora. More of the same. with a higher babe factor (Kim Basinger and Drew Barrymore in cameos). Garth discovering the love of a woman. and another nasty turn by Christopher Walken. Schwing-time once more. General release.
I The Wedding Barium ( 15) (Ang Lee. US/I‘aiwan. 1993) Winston Chao. May Chin. Sihung Lung. Ah-Lea Gua. 107 mins. A successful naturalised American lives happily with his gay lover in Manhattan until pressure from his parents in Taiwan forces him to marry a young Chinese artist in need of a green card. But when mum and dad jump on the next plane for the wedding celebrations. a farcical situation becomes emotionally tense. Funny and serious in perfectly balanced measure. Glasgow: Grosvenor.
