He still likes to indulge in a song and does so here with the help of a distinctlyjazz-influenced band. featuring Raymond MacDonald on alto and Lesley Robertson on tenor and baritone saxes. Davie Anderson (his son) on bass and drummer Alan Parker. October's scheduled guest is guitarist Mundell Lowe (Thu 16). TUESDAY 23

Glasgow

I Iain Ballamy's ACME Tron Theatre. 63 Trongate. 552 4267. 8pm. £8 (£6). Tour dates for the Scottish debut of this excellent quartet have come to us a little late. but you should try hard not to miss them. I caught the band at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival earlier this year. and they fairly fizzed through a set that found its own niche somewhere between straight jazz and electric fusion. lain Ballamy continues to be one of the most impressive and intriguing saxophonists around. guitarist John Paricelli brings his own distinctive contribution to the music. and the explosive rhythm section formed by the Mondesir brothers will need no introduction in these parts. The six-date tour is a blueprint for a proposed Scottish touring circuit (a decision on a funding application is expected mid-September). and it would be good to see them off to a successful start.
