B.B. King The rise of BB. King is a classic rags-to-riches tale, and one which took the bluesman from a sharecropper’s cabin in Mississippi to major auditoriums all around the world. His closest companion on that journey has been Lucille, the name he gave to his guitar after rescuing it from a burning club in Twist, Arkansas in 1949, narrowly escaping death in the process. King tells that story and many others in his long- awaited autobiography, Blues A/lAround Me. A lot of Lucilles have passed through his hands in the near five decades since - he makes it seventeen at the last count — but he has remained a permanent symbol of the blues, and is now set to shake and shiver at the new Armadillo hall of the SECC. Around the world, a-round the wu-urld, around the world, around the wu- urld . . . Mais oui mes petits, c'est eux. Messrs Bangalter and de Homem- Christo (no, really) are about to embark on a UK spree (Daftendirektour, they’re calling it) during which they’ll bring Britain to the brink of insanity with their cray-zee Gallic beats. The boys — who played a storming set at T in the Park earlier this year — will be airing selections from their Top Ten album Homework including, it’s safe to assume, the new single, 'Burnin’ ’. The Glasgow show is sold out, so if you ain’t got a ticket watch out for men with dodgy accents in the Gallowgate. (Andrew Burnet)

Macbeth
'Is this a dagger which I see before me . . . or are you just pleased to see me?’ Well might Macbeth look bemused by the raunchy witches in the Crimean Tatar National Theatre’s take on the Scottish play. This young company, formed 50 years after Stalin expelled the Tatars from Crimea, bring their vivid, energetic version to Edinburgh for Assembly Alivel, the bi- annual arts festival based at the Assembly Rooms. Expect a production laced with Tatar sauce. (Andrew Burnet)
