The giant puppet creations of the underworld are a sight to behold, and make for excellent dancing partners, while their comic asides assure this is definitely not just kids stuff. (Helen Monaghan)

When his wife dies, the mournful king decrees that the queen's favourite past time, dancing, should be banned from the kingdom, leaving his three daughters a tad miffed. Escape comes in the form of a magical underworld where they can dance to their hearts content. That is until an astronomical cobblers bill arouses their father's suspicion. Hell-bent on discovering their secret, the king offers the hand of one of his daughters to the fellow who can unravel the mystery.
Brought to the stage by Edinburgh Puppet Company, from the original Brothers Grimm fairytale, this compelling and innovative production appeals to adults and children alike. Masters of object animation, the actors, resplendent in lavish costumes, build many of the puppets as they go along, from materials as diverse as powder puffs, ballet shoes and glass
