We all know how hard it is for new bands to get their first break. You’ve written all these great tunes, but you can't afford studio time. And, Without a decent demo, you’re finding it really hard to get gigs. It’s enough to make you want to give up before you’ve jammed your first three chords.

Well, listen up. We have the prize of a lifetime for a lucky band, solo artist or DJ, with tons of talent looking for a stroke of luck. You can Win £1000 of free studio time from Jam Factor A recording studio, which, in practical terms, means five days with the use of all equipment and accommodation. And this is no grotty little basement With egg boxes on the wall and damp on the ceiling -- Jam Factor A is a proper recording studio complete with attached film and TV studio space located on a beautiful estate in rural Perthshire. You will have amps, mics, mixing desks, instruments and the serVices of a professional sound engineer at your disposal, meaning all you have to bring is your food and creative genius. The runner up will Win two days at Jam Factor A.

The Winning band and runner up will have the demos they record at Jam Factor A given airplay on Beat Patrol (Radio Scotland), the show that gave the likes of ldlewild, Belle and Sebastian, Bis, The Delgados and Urusei Yatsura their first ever airplay. Beat Patrol broadcasts right across Scotland every Sunday between 8--9pm.

What's more, Jam Factor A will organise a gig for the Winner and runner up at The 13th Note in Glasgow, which WIII be attended by representatives from 20 top A&R departments in the UK.

You can win this fantastic prize by sending in a demo tape, photo, brief biography and entry form. Representatives from Jam Factor A, Radio Scotland and The List WIII listen to the demos and award the prize to the two Judged to be the best.

Entry forms are available in The List and from Jam Factor A. We are inViting entries from all musical genres, including Dls. Please note that the recording quality of the demo doesn’t matter.

The deadline for entries is Thu 11 Mar and the Winner will be announced on Beat Patrol and in The List out on Thu 15 Apr.
