Tonight’s event features renowned Canadian minimalist Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman), who rocked Pure in Edinburgh a few weeks ago, alongside The H Foundation’s Halo and Hipp-E (Siesta); not forgetting of course Scotland’s own west coast wonders Stuart and Orde.

I Relief at The Arches. 11pm—3am. £8 (£6). Weekly (not 25 Aug). Lawrence Hughes and Silicone Soul, who are currently rocking dancefioors across the globe with single ‘Right On, Right On’, will be bidding farewell to The Arches before long, which should make for some top class outings.
I Soulsa at Ad-Lib. 9pm—3am. £3. Weekly. Smooth disco courtesy of Andy Unger, Rodger, Pete Murphy and Wayne Dixon, who are keen to show that disco doesn’t just mean Daft Punk and their filter-happy peers, preferring instead the genuine classics the revivalists sample. I Str8 Up at Slave. 10pm—3am. £5 (£3). Weekly. Lovejoy and Robin with bouncing cuts ranging from vocal to hard house.
I Tantra at Trash. 10pm—3am. £5 (£4). Weekly. Pumping house action from The Tunnel’s Colin Tevendale and Lisa Littlewood, with more mellow house and disco in Room Two from DJ Robert.
I Test at The Glasgow School of Art. 10.30pm—3am. £10. 1 Sep only. The last of the packaged depravity extravaganzas for this summer. Downstairs, Paul Brown, Phil Murray and Leon Devlan spin scratchy electro and hip hop before warping into abstract techno. Upstairs, it’s bass-heavy business as usual for DJs Shandy, Marcin Czubala and Steve Glencross, plus a live slot from Ibrahim Alfa. For an extra dose of heavy stuff, the Black Sabbath tribute combo who wowed the kids at the Test birthday bash are set to return.

GENRE-DEFYING JAM SESSION
Ouch Presents Shtndtg Glasgow: Riverside Club, Sat 2 Sep. For those who haven't heard rising stars Engine, the group somehow manage to combine folk, funk, 60$ harmonising, the odd Pink Floydism, ragga-inflected drum & bass, soaring soul vocals and good old- fashioned house music. It should come as no surprise, then, that the stylistic jackdaws are all set to stick two fingers at gigging convention
iii-9' - ‘b 1 Driving force: live dance-fusionists Engine shatter yet another convention
with their next appearance under the Ouch banner (the club night which first broke them to an unsuspecting Glasgow public) by collaborating with
DJs Chris Lamb and Kev Dillon.
'The way we're going to work it,’ explains guitarist Steve Gardiner, 'is that we'll leave the stage after the gig, the 015 will start up and we’ll come back on and just lay guitar parts over the top, add vocals, add percussion and build it up to a big finale at the end of the night. We'll be responding to what Chris and Kev are playing.’ 'We're rehearsing at the moment,‘ adds lead vocalist Kathleen Sheridan. ’lt's not completely off the cuff - we'll be aware of the chords on certain songs or whatever - and I think we're all looking forward to it, partly because I don't think anyone’s done this before, and because it's nice to have a bit of a challenge. Normally we just leave the stage after the last song and that’s it. This should stretch us a bit.’
Engine's latest member, Rick Jones, joined up after spotting an unused drum kit on stage during a gig and deciding to add a bit of live percussion. 'l've played in loads of guitar-based bands, and I was just getting bored with that whole sound. So, playing to club-based backing tracks after the gig certainly makes a change. Plus, playing like that, the drums and the bass have to be spot on and, with Nordin on bass, I have no worries about where he's going, it just seems to be really tight every time.’
The Ouch Shindig, then, is a chance to catch a genuinely novel approach to music in clubs, with impromptu remixing and reworking in place of the usual dividing line between DJ and band. (Jack Mottram)

In addition, the Archaos cast of performers bring a touch of the circus to Clubland with fire-eaters, stilt-walkers and daredevil trapeze artistry.
