A Law himslf

Perhaps the most tricky thing for stand-up comics is to find that certain something which makes them stand out from the pack. I certainly don’t know of too many funny folk who have had impersonations of a brachiosaurus in their act. Would you even know what a brachiosaurus

was if it happened to drop in your lap?

Tony Law, then, is no average stand-up. Half-Trinidadian, half-Canadian, he got his first break by convincing Lenny Henry’s brother (a regular in the bar that Law was working in) that he was a star in the making. With the aid of an ale or ten, he stormed the open slot in which he performed his debut and went on to win a comedy competition at Glastonbury.

One warning: do not on any account heckle this man. One typical come- back was aimed at a female heckler: ‘And you suck your dad’s cock with that mouth?’ That’s just plain nasty. That said, maybe his biggest mistake to date was to get involved with Daisy Donovan’s ‘comedy’ quiz ‘show’, Does Doug Know?, though others could be cruel enough to point to the part he played in The Dinks sketch show as a Iowlight. While both projects certainly have their keen advocates, we’d much rather he brought on the dancing brachiosaurus. (Brian Donaldson)
