I It’s a fine month for buying art. While art schools showcase the up and coming, Edinburgh’s Out of the Blue are hosting an Arts Market at the Drillhall on Saturday 11 June. In conjunction with the Leith Festival, around 40 artists will be offering their wares, including jewellery, furniture, fashion, photography and painting. The venue is about to undergo major renovation to make it into a multi-arts creation centre and a venue for the Edinburgh international Festival in August.
I Meanwhile. down in London, at 'art london'. Edinburgh’s Open Eye gallery is setting up stall in Burton's Court, Chelsea with portraits and caricature etchings by John Kay. Visit www.art|ondon.net for more information.
IThere’s been trouble at t’wind farm. The unveiling of Dalziel & Scullion’s billboard on the site of a proposed wind farm in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, was interrupted by an intervention from an angry farmer who parked his van in front of the image. It wasn’t clear whether he was angry about the wind farm or the art - or both. But on a rainy day in the north of Scotland it added drama to the gathered and assembled windswept few.
3 Keep your eyes open for the long-anticipated and much criticised Cultural Commission report which is published on Thursday 23 June. James Boyle's commission has finished all consultations and is writing up its findings and conclusions in a report that will be accessible at www.culturalcommission.org.uk on that date, together with the consultation submissions and their research library.
