HALF TERM DAY TRIP DEEP SEA WORLD

Nestled under the Forth Rail Bridge in North Queensferry, Deep Sea World is the accessible face of marine biology, and a hot spot for families looking for a day out the Scottish weather can’t spoil. For over ten years, the centre has taken visitors on a watery tour of some of the ocean’s most fascinating inhabitants, from sea horses and Nemo-style clown fish to rather less friendly piranhas and ragged tooth sharks.

Home to one of the longest underwater tunnels in the world and complete with moving walkway, Deep Sea World now has a new feather in its cap - a seal sanctuary. Run in conjunction with the Scottish SPCA, the sanctuary is a convalescent home for sick or injured seals in need of a little R&R before heading back to the ocean. The facility is also the new permanent abode for three generations of seals: grandma Morag, daughter Nessie and granddaughter Heather. All three receive a medical check-up and bucket of fish each afternoon - an entertaining and educational addition to Deep Sea World’s visitor itinerary, with typical teenager, Heather, clearly loving her

new-found star status.

Elsewhere in the marine centre, death and destruction reign supreme, much to everyone’s delight. Lunchtime in the piranha tank turns their calm water into a frenzied jacuzzi, while the brave/foolish divers who venture inside the shark pool put on a good show. Kids can also get up close and personal with starfish and crabs in the rock pools, have their photo taken with a snake, or watch a bearded dragon (lizard) tuck into some unsuspecting wee beasties.
