(‘omme des (iarcons. originally established by Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo. is the foremost proponent of so- called ‘guerrilla retailing‘. which involves setting up temporary. ad-hoc shops in neglected locations. YOUNG DESIGNERS MAKE THE SHIFT

FROM CATWALK TO HIGH STREET

I The clothes are barely back on their hangers following the inaugural Edinburgh International Fashion Festival, but two of the young designers featured in the festival’s New Edinburgh showcase have already been approached by a major High Street chain. The pair of young talents, Jenny Williamson (pictured), a graduate of Edinburgh’s College of Art, and Chloe Patience are being courted by the - as yet, unnamed - retailer, with a view to either joining their design studio team on a salaried basis or creating one-off capsule collections. Another of the featured designers, Elliot Atkinson, also an ECO alumnus, has received a raft of private commissions, as well as his first wholesale order from cutting-edge London boutique, The Pineal Eye. Clearly, a week is a long time in fashion. (AR)
