Fiesta!

The weather might not be acting it, but the signs of impending summer are all there festivals, food fairs, open-air gigs and excitable people with paint on their faces. Experience all of them at once as

the sound of drumming in the street heralds the start of the West End Festival. It kicks off, as ever, with Scotland’s Mardi Gras (pictured), bringing a bit of colour to a predictably dreich Byres Road, but this year’s programme encompasses live music, open mic and fashion events, belly dancing evenings, at least three street parties and a very comprehensive programme of open air theatre (see page ??). Check out Around Town, Music and Theatre listings, or www.westendfestival.co.uk, for complete information.
