Art of mtter Following a slew of successful exhibitions. the National Galleries of Scotland have

announced the recent purchase of two ‘Glasgow School‘ pictures from the private collection of Andrew McIntosh Patrick. In collaboration with The Art Fund. the Galleries have made two grant-aided purchases, ‘A Cabbage Garden' (1877) by Arthur Melville and ‘A Herd Boy' (1886) by EA Walton. The aquisition of these pieces builds upon the Galleries” previous acquisitions of three masterpieces from the McIntosh Patrick collection in 1999. McIntosh Patrick. the former Managing Director of The Fine Art Society began collecting the work of the Glasgow Boys in the late 19605.

are forming a Community Orchestra for Glasgow. The Merchant Sinfonia is open to anyone. regardless of prevrous musical experience and Will meet on a weekly basis to explore a wide variety of orchestral repertoire. Led by cellist LOUISC Martin. it allows players of all abilities to work together. Players of any orchestral instrument. aged 16 and over, are invited to open rehearsals beginning in January. The title of Champions of Culture Art In Public Places was awarded in recognition of the centre's promotion of crafts. art, music. history. dance. literary and theatrical resources and talents of the region. Since it opened in September, the venue has been praised for bringing the arts to the local community.
