BRIGHT CLUB Where comedy and academia collide

A cademics trying their hand at stand up? Sounds awful, but that is exactly what Bright Club is and bloody funny it has turned out to be, too, with nights popping up across the UK, including regular outings in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee. Each event takes a select handful of university researchers, delivering short comedy sets themed around their area of study be that particle physics, English lit or whatever Mickey Mouse degree

the kids are learning these days. Every event features four to eight performers and a musical/comedy compere. The line- up for Edinburgh’s December event at The Stand is still to be revealed, but what with its proximity to 25 Dec, we imagine there will be a Christmassy slant to the proceedings. (Niki Boyle)

The Stand, Edinburgh, Tue 18 Dec.
