he was a policeman in Palestine. My grandma also picks up patterned clothes for me which she knows I’ll like.’ Alice: ‘Two of my favourite rings were total surprises: one I found on the pavement, and the other was bought at a car

boot for 20p and turned out to be rose gold from the 1920s.’
