One of the highlights of each Eating & Drinking Guide are our Hitlists. The breadth of coverage, along with our 20-year experience of the scene and the fact that all venues are visited incognito by our team of experienced local reviewers, means we’re very well placed to make objective choices about the eating experiences that truly stand out from the crowd. Reviewers are asked to pick out the most memorable meals from the venues they visit, and these nominations are then discussed with our editors to select Hitlists our independent pick of the best in each section of the guide. The concept of Hitlists was introduced for the fth edition of the Eating & Drinking Guide back in 1998. Even back then a few familiar names were attracting attention, including Edinburgh’s Café St Honoré, The Witchery, The Shore and Suruchi, and Glasgwegian favourites such as Café Gandolfi , Mother India, Fratelli Sarti, Two Fat Ladies and the Ubiquitous Chip. In 2012 a further concept, Tiplists, was introduced to provide useful recommendations across a wide range of eating and drinking- related topics such as outdoor dining, BYOB and dining with kids or groups. There are even suggestions of the places with good sourcing policies, best menus for vegetarians, where to nd late dining and the best places for taking the dog. 11 Dec 2014–5 Feb 2015 THE LIST 59
