F or the i rst time ever, Paisley’s spring Food and Drink Festival will take place over two days, running on Fri 27 and Sat 28 April
next to historic Paisley Abbey.
The organisers promise that this year’s festival will be bigger and better than ever before, helping further raise the proi le of the area’s internationally signii cant heritage, which came under the spotlight in the town’s bid for 2021 UK City of Culture.
As always, the event will celebrate some of the country’s best produce and most popular street food vendors, but there will also be a chance to get involved in a number of different activities. A celebrity chef (announced soon) will lead cookery demonstrations, giving visitors the opportunity to learn new skills, while kids can take part in a series of free workshops and giant lawn games.
There will be gin tasting sessions from Gin71, an award-winning bar chain and founders of the UK’s i rst dedicated gin spa. Sample Arbikie, Gin Bothy, Isle of Harris and other Scottish craft gins in the ‘gin palace’, or chat to different producers at Meet the Maker sessions. The Food and Drink Festival sits alongside Paisley’s Real Ale Festival – running from Wed 25– Sat 28 Apr – offering over 100 cask ales, as well as cider, mead, wine and a selection of international beers. Karen Moore, one of the organisers from the Campaign for Real Ale, said: ‘We will have beers from local breweries like Kelburn and Jaw, as well as many others from all over the UK. There will also be food available to soak up the beer from our

Back at the Food and Drink Festival, Edinburgh’s popular street food market The Pitt (winners at the Scottish Street Food Awards) will gather together some of Scotland’s best street food trucks and traders to keep punters fuelled at the two-day event. Expect grub from Barnacles & Bones, Bruadair, The Buffalo Truck, Harajuku Kitchen and The Crema Caravan. Other vendors include Babu Kitchen, Mighty Mexican, Linton and Co Coffee, Scozzese Pizza and Sharma Street Food. Children’s portions are available and dietary requirements will be catered to where possible.
